Welcome to this week's Sketch Challenge from Utah Divas International! Here is the sketch for this week:

And here is my card:

Surprise! I used the Soho Subway Designer Paper again!  I just couldn't resist using another of the landmark signs as my background layer. This card went together very quickly, and I think the rhinestone's are just what I needed to make it pop.

Here's what I used:

Stamp Set: Really Good Greetings
Ink: Chocolate Chip
Card Stock: Island Indigo, Crushed Curry, Cajun Craze, Early Espresso, Crisp Cantaloupe
Punches: 1-3/4" Circle, 2-3/8" Scallop Circle
Embellishments: Large Rhinestone Basic Jewels, Rhinestone Basic Jewels

This is another simple card. You could step it up by stamping a patterned background on the card base or running the card base through the Big Shot with a Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.

I hope you enjoyed this week's sketch. Be sure to stop by the UDI Blog to see what the rest of the Design Team created, and take some time this weekend to be creative! Happy crafting!

Saturday, July 20, 2013

Hello, everyone! It's time for another Saturday Sketch Challenge from Utah Divas International.  Here's today's sketch:

And here is my card:

I had a lot of fun with this one, and I got to use up all those scraps of Soho Subway designer paper I had after the last few weeks' posts! I enjoyed this one so much I used it as inspiration for one of my swap cards at Stampin' Up! Convention this week. That's right! I'm at convention in Salt Lake City right now with THOUSANDS of stamping crafters all in one place.  And it's Stampin' Up's 25th Anniversary, so that makes it even more exciting! It's a lot of fun, and I'm running on energy reserves! I'll write more about convention and share more of my swaps after I get home and have had a chance to recover and process everything. :D

Back to my card--here's what I used:

Stamp Sets: Label Love, Forever With You
Ink: Cajun Craze, Chocolate Chip
Card Stock: Crushed Curry, Early Espresso, Crisp Cantaloupe, Soft Sky
Scraps: Soho Subway Designer Paper, Island Indigo, Cajun Craze, Crushed Curry, Crisp Cantaloupe Card Stock
Punches: Artisan Label, Decorative Label
Embellishment: Calypso Coral Baker's Twine
Tools: Big Shot, Honeycomb Textured Impressions Embossing Folder

I randomly stamped the border stamp from Forever With You on my Crushed Curry Card base.

The scraps layer is fun and simple to make. I took a piece of card stock and covered it with snail.  Then I laid my scraps in random patterns. It doesn't matter if the pieces overlap a bit or hang off the edge. Just make sure all of the snail adhesive is covered. Once the layer was covered, I turned it over, and used the base card stock as a guide to trim away the over hanging scraps. Then I ran the whole thing through my Big Shot in the Honeycomb Textured Impressions Embossing Folder.

After attaching the Early Espresso, Calypso Coral and Scrap layers to the card base, I took a length of Baker's Twine and tied a bow in the center. I attached the bow to the top center of the scrap layer with a glue dot, and attached the ends with glue dots before attaching my punched layers with dimensionals.

I stamped the Label Love stamp once in Cajun Craze on Crisp Cantaloupe and once in Chocolate Chip on Soft Sky. I punched the Crisp Cantelope label with the Artisan Label punch, and I cut just the inner oval from the Soft Sky image. I popped the Soft Sky oval with another dimensional, and it's finished!

I hope you enjoyed this weeks sketch and my project. Be sure to stop by the UDI Blog to see what the rest of the design team made with this sketch! Happy Crafting!

Saturday Sketch Challenge

Good morning, everyone! It's time for another Saturday Sketch Challenge from Utah Divas International.  Here is the sketch:

And here is my card! SUPER SIMPLE! I almost feel like I'm cheating, I did so little on this card, but honestly, this is a card I will be proud to send.

You may have noticed in my last few posts, I'm in love with the new designer paper pack, Soho Subway. I just can't get enough of it, and you'll probably be seeing more of it over the next few weeks. In particular, I'm really liking the sheet with all of the New York Landmark signs on it. They are perfect to use together as a background or cut out separately as a focal point.

So, here's what I used:

Designer Paper: Soho Subway
Card Stock: Wisteria Wonder, Crushed Curry
Ribbon: Crumb Cake Seam Binding Ribbon
Tools:  Woodgrain Textured Impressions Folder

I think this card is fine the way it is, but if you wanted to step it up a bit, you could easily add a row of rhinestones under the tag or anywhere else you like! I hope you enjoyed this week's sketch, and that you are inspired to do something creative this weekend! Saturday Sketch

Hi, Everyone!

It’s time for another Saturday Sketch! Be sure to stop by the UDI Blog to see what the rest of the team came up with!

So here’s the sketch for this week.  I really like it a lot, and I’ve been wanting to play with our new Washi tape, but unfortunately, I don’t have any yet, While I was looking through my scrap pile of Designer Papers, I ran across some leftovers from a project I made with our new Soho Subway paper.

UDISC248-001

And here’s my card.  I had some lighting issues when I took this picture, so it looks much better in person, and it was super simple to make.

udisc248

Here’s what I used:

Stamp Set: Label Love

Ink: Cajun Craze

Card Stock: Baked Brown Sugar, Crushed Curry, Cajun Craze, Crisp Cantaloupe

Designer Paper: Soho Subway.

Punch: Artisan Label Punch

I used strips of Soho Subway paper for the strips in the sketch. I’m in love with this paper, and one of my favorite things about it is the sheet with all the signs on it for the different landmarks of New York City. They have a vintage look and they look great as they are on the page or cut apart as a focal point for a card or other project.

It’s hard to tell, but I popped the Artisan Label up with Dimensionals. This card could easily be stepped up with some rhinestones or pearls.

So have a great weekend, and take some time to do something creative! See you next week!

Saturday Sketch #247

Hi! Here’s today’s sketch from Utah Divas International. I had the honor of designing this sketch for the Divas from a card I’d already made and I knew this would be a slam-dunk week. No need to worry about creating a new card because I already had it made, right? Wrong. Apparently, between the time I designed the sketch and now, I not only lost the card, but I neglected to take a photo as well…

UDISC247 June 29

Luckily, I have a good memory, and I was able to recreate the card. I used a different color scheme this time. The original was made to look more like a sunflower with pumpkin pie daisies. I used Daffodil Delight, Cajun Craze and Wisteria Wonder for the big flower. This combination gives it a completely different look, but I like that the design can be refreshed so easily with a different colors.

udisc247

And then as I began to post my blog, it occurred to me where I put the original card! So here’s a picture of both of them! My memory missed a few details, but I like both versions.

IMG_3527IMG_3529

So, here’s what I used on the new card:

Stamp Sets: Feel Goods, Secret Garden

Card Stock:  Pool Party, Whisper White, Calypso Coral, Crisp Cantaloupe, Strawberry Slushie, Wild Wasabi

Ink: Calypso Coral, Strawberry Slushie

Framelits: Floral Frames, Secret Garden

Embossing Folders: Chevrons, Perfect Polka Dots

Punch: 1/2” Circle

And, the original card used:

Stamp Sets: Feel Goods, Secret Garden, Daydream Medallions

Card Stock: Pool Party, Whisper White, Daffodil Delight, Cajun Craze, Wisteria Wonder, Gumball Green

Ink: Elegant Eggplant, Pumpkin Pie

Framelits: Floral Frames, Secret Garden

Embossing Folders: Chevrons, Perfect Polka Dots

That’s it for this week. I hope everyone has a safe and happy Independence Day celebration. In the meantime, enjoy making your own version of this week’s sketch! And be sure to stop by the UDI Blog to see what the rest of the design team created!

Saturday Sketch 245

Good morning! I just got back from a week of visiting friends in Virginia. My goddaughter graduated from high school, and it was such an honor to be able to see her walk across the stage!  I still remember her as a very little girl who liked to ride on my shoulders, and it’s so hard to believe she’s a young woman now. Thank goodness she doesn’t want to ride on my shoulders anymore! Anyway, we had a great time catching up, and I flew back in to Sacramento yesterday morning and spent the day resting up from 12 hours of airplanes and airports, and this morning I decided it was time to play with paper again!

Luckily it is time for UDI’s Saturday Sketch, so I had a little help getting back in the creative groove. Here is the sketch for this week:

UDISC245

And here is my card! I had fun playing with Everything Eleanor and From my Heart. It was pretty simple, but I like the way it turned out.

Here’s what I used:

Stamp Sets: From My Heart, Everything Eleanor

Card Stock: Pistachio Pudding, Baked Brown Sugar, Strawberry Slushie, Raspberry Ripple

Ink: Baked Brown Sugar, Pistachio Pudding, Chocolate Chip, Coastal Cabana, Gold Stampin’ Dazzle Marker

Embellishments: Rhinestones

Tools: Hearts Framelits, Big Shot, 7/8” Scallop Circle Punch

Using a Pistachio Pudding card base, I stamped the flourish from Everything Eleanor in Pistachio Pudding ink. I added a bird in Coastal Cabana ink sitting on one of the loops.

I cut a strip of Raspberry Ripple 1-1/2” wide and snipped the end to make a flag. I punched 3 scallop circles from Strawberry Slushie card stock, drew gold spirals with my Stampin’ Dazzle Marker, and added a rhinestone to the centers.

I stamped the Thank You stamp in Chocolate Chip ink on Baked Brown Sugar card stock and cut it with a Hearts framelit. I stamped one of the flowers from Everything Eleanor repeatedly in Baked Brown Sugar ink on Baked Brown Sugar card stock and cut it for background with the next bigger Hearts framelit.

I stamped the winged heart portion of the Thank You stamp in Baked Brown Sugar ink on Raspberry Ripple card stock. Then I cut it out layered it on the Baked Brown Sugar heart, and added rhinestones.

I hope you enjoyed this week’s challenge. Remember to check out the UDI blog to get more ideas to make with this sketch.

I decided to keep it pretty simple, and dress it up with some texture. This card is a mix of some current and some new items that will be available on May 31. The new items include a textured impressions folder, a designer series paper, 4 of the 5 new in colors, and 2 new core colors from this year’s color refresh. Here is what I used:

Card Stock:  Base-Bermuda Bay, Layer-Coastal Cabana, Pennants-Pink Pirouette, Strawberry Slush, Pistachio Pudding, Island Indigo, Crisp Cantaloupe

Ink:  Island Indigo

Stamp Set: Itty Bitty Banners

Designer Series Paper: Quatrefancy Specialty

Punches & Dies: Petite Pennants Builder Punch, Bitty Banners Framelits, Modern Mosaic Textured Impressions Embossing Folder

Embellishment: Whisper White Baker’s Twine

I’m having a whole lot of fun with the items I was able to preorder from the new catalog, and I can’t wait until May 31 when the catalog goes live so I can order more new toys!

Keep Calm & Carry On

Hello, All!

I’ve been away from my blog for awhile, and I’ve missed having regular craft therapy! It’s been a crazy winter, and I’m welcoming spring with an open heart!

Here is this week’s sketch challenge from UDI:

UDISC237 APR 20-001I made this card a couple of weeks ago, and had no idea how appropriate it would end up being this week. Between the horrific bombings in Boston, and the unimaginable explosion in West, Texas, I think we can all use a bit of encouragement. My thoughts and prayers are with those who suffer and grieve in both cities.

IMG_3186

This is a very simple card. It could easily be stepped up by using a texture folder on the card base. I’m picturing the stripes folder, but any folder would do.

The stamp set is the Hostess set, Carry On. If you don’t have this set already, consider hosting a workshop before the current catalog ends on May 31 so you can earn it! We have the ability to do online catalog workshops now, so it’s easy to hold a party with friends near and far!

I hope you’re feeling the warmth of spring wherever you are. Be sure to stop by the UDI blog and see the amazing card Barbara made for this sketch!

Here is my supply list:

Stamp Set: Carry On (Hostess)

Ink:  Real Red

Card Stock: Midnight Muse, Real Red, Whisper White

Punch: Itty BItty Punch Pack

Embellishment: Rhinestones

Adhesives: Snail, Dimensionals
